what is stereotype?

stereotypes are a mind in people for some special team or group. people might hear some information or rumor to think they are different or peculiar group. like color people or feminism. due to social media development, people can easily get a lot of information about anything, like country, people, war. it also depends on history, people learn from history, they think it is not changed by now. but in fact, maybe some country or team or group has been changed, but other people also think these people or countries are same as they imagine.

stereotype affect people communication.

stereotype will affect our judgment, when we need judge who is correct, the stereotype will affect us to make some wrong estimate. for example, if there is a criminal case, a black man and white man are criminal suspect. people might more pay attention to black man. in Zootopia, Judi still takes pepper spray even she is fox’s friend. stereotype will affect people not only communication but also some behavior. if people have stereotype with some group, they will say different words to these group.

past experience

I am a Chinese; I do not know stereotype on some color people. my mom tells me do not talk with homeless, they are psychosis or cheater. I fellow my mom words, I still do not talk with them, one day I notice a homeless around my school, I give him 1 rmb, he says thank you and just go away, on the night I see him sleep in the bench, not take off the dirty close. I understand, he is not a cheater or psychosis, he just meets some accident, cannot find job. he is just homeless.

how stereotype affect us communication?

for these two storyboards, the woman thinks the graffiti must done by the punk. next time she meets a punk she will run away, and dose not talk with him, if she talks with him, she must tell him sincerely. she just thinking how to run, how to escape with the punk. if the woman is irritable, she might ask punk why you draw graffiti on the wall?

in second storyboard. the man thinks who sleep on the bench must be homeless. but he does not know the man who sleep on the bench because of be in drink. he has a home. for communication, the man might ask him, need some help? or give some money to this man who is he thinks he is homeless.

conclusion

stereotype will affect us judge these group or team; you will find many people has stereotype in their childhood. this is because children do not have judgement ability, they just fellow parents. we need consider all situation and do not have stereotype with some groups. maybe there are some situation or accident you do not know.
